Ancillotti's Triple Entry in the MISE Register
For two-wheel enthusiasts, the name Ancillotti has always been synonymous with quality and success.
A brand renowned for producing Cross, Enduro, and Trial motorcycles, as well as Downhill and Enduro MTB bikes, Ancillotti has achieved a new milestone by being included in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest by the MISE (Ministry of Economic Development) with three brands: Ancillotti, Ancillotti Motorcycles, and Ancillotti Scarab.
The Three Ancillotti Brands Registered in the MISE
The Ministry of Economic Development, known as MISE, established the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest in 2019 to highlight Italian brands that have been registered for at least 50 years with the same name.
As of January 10, 2020, Ancillotti, thanks to the registration of three of its motorcycle and bicycle brands, has gained the right to use the "Historic Brands of National Interest" logo for promotional and commercial purposes.
The three brands are included in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest with registration numbers 29, 126, and 128.
The Birth of Ancillotti
The history of the Ancillotti company began in the early 1900s when Ernesto Ancillotti opened a mechanical repair workshop in Florence.
Raised in his father’s workshop, surrounded by engines, Ernesto's son Gualtiero continued the family tradition by opening his own workshop, Ancillotti Elaborazioni Specialità Moto, in 1938.
Creativity, ingenuity, and passion allowed him to create customizations that made history in the world of two-wheelers. Among the first were the modifications to the suspensions of the famous WLA Harley Davidson motorcycles, for which Gualtiero developed a modern shock absorption system that made riding the WLA safer and more comfortable.
After Harley Davidson, it was the turn of the Lambretta Innocenti. Ancillotti successfully created two highly acclaimed customizations: the Lambretta Ancillotti Special 200 c.c. and the Lambretta Ancillotti Super Sprint 250 c.c. The first set a class speed record in 1965, while the second achieved two still unbeaten records: the launched quarter-mile record and the standing kilometer record.
The Growth of the Company
The success of Ancillotti's customizations continued to grow year by year, culminating in 1968 with a new customization called the Scarab. These new motorcycles, modifications of the Beta Cross Special, were so well-received that they pushed Gualtiero to take a significant step forward, becoming a motorcycle manufacturer.
Leaving behind the San Frediano workshop, Ancillotti opened a factory in Sambuca Val di Pesa, where industrial production of Off-road, Enduro, and Cross motorcycles began on an assembly line.
The Scarabs continued to be Ancillotti’s flagship product, and during the 1960s and 1970s, they were among the most coveted motorcycles.
Fast forward to the 1990s, when the motorcycle company expanded its production to include bicycles, among which were the Scarab MTB for Downhill and Enduro.
Ancillotti After 2000
In 2009, the Ancillotti 125 G.A. Cross was born, a motorcycle produced in just four units that won the First MX Motorsprint Trophy in Polcanto in 2010, taking first place.
Among the latest bicycle models are the Scarab EVO 29 and the Scarab EVO 29 HD, which won a world championship in 2021.
