Ancillotti: A Brand with a Long History
ā
Ancillotti is one of the most significant Italian brands included in the special register of historic trademarks of national interest, with registration number 29. This list was established on April 30, 2019, by the Ministry of Economic Development. Today, the special register includes around 70 registered brands.
One of the requirements to be listed in the special register of historic trademarks of national interest is to have operated continuously under the same company name for at least 50 years.
In August 2021, the Amsi (Italian Association of Historic Brands) was also established, with eight founding members, including big names such as Inghirami, Antinori, and Benetton.
Ancillotti is the first Italian bicycle brand of historic interest, with over 50 years of history, to be registered in the Special Register of Historic Trademarks. This fantastic journey began in 1967 in Florence with the founding of Ancillotti Meccanica by Gualtiero Ancillotti, following a tradition started by his father, who in 1938 set up his first workshop, "Specialità Moto," in San Frediano, a historic district of Florence.
The first creations were modifications to the WLA, the most famous Harley Davidson of the time. The innovation was in modifying the rigid frame to make it flexible, a revolutionary and cutting-edge initiative, especially for those years.
In the 1960s, the Ancillotti workshop focused on modifying scooters like the Lambretta Innocenti, which was the first step toward the production of Cross, Enduro, and Trial motorcycles. The Scarab model became Ancillotti’s flagship product.
Since the 1990s, the production of innovative bicycles that also respect tradition has followed the production of motorcycles.

Ancillotti MTB Bicycles: Top Models
ā
Ancillotti is the first bicycle brand to be registered in the Special Register of Historic Trademarks. In addition to this achievement, the models combine innovative design with the attention to detail typical of handcrafted products.
The historic models include: DH Scarab, Scarab Enduro, Tomaso, DHP Tomaso (Downhill), DHY, Fry, and Scarab EVO 29, up to the latest prototype, the Scarab Evo 29 DH.
The Scarab Evo 29 revisits the company's historic Scarab model, created over 30 years ago, but enriched with new features. As the name suggests, it includes 29-inch wheels with a 65° steering angle, a hallmark of Ancillotti tradition.
For downhill and high-level descent enthusiasts, the Enduro Fry was the bike on which Brook MacDonald became world champion.
