Ancillotti: The First Italian Historic Bicycle Brand

Discovering the First Italian Bicycle Brand Registered in the MISE Historic Register

What makes Ancillotti bicycles special? At first glance, it might seem to be their particularly original and meticulous design, with a distinctive style. However, what truly sets them apart is their status as the first Italian bicycle brand listed in the Special Register of Historic Brands of national interest.

Ancillotti: The History of an Italian Brand That Made Bicycle History

Ancillotti is an Italian brand with a long history, as evidenced by its listing in the Special Register of Historic Brands of national interest, established on April 30, 2019, by the Ministry of Economic Development with registration number 29.

This initiative, launched by MISE (the Ministry of Economic Development), requires a brand to demonstrate operational continuity for the past 50 years under the same name to qualify for the Special Register of Historic Brands.

Ancillotti is the first Italian bicycle brand of historical interest to be listed in the Special Register of Historic Brands, boasting over 50 years of history. The story began in 1967 in Florence, where Ancillotti Meccanica was founded and led by Gualtiero Ancillotti, who followed in his father's footsteps. In 1938, his father had opened the "Specialità Moto" workshop in the historic San Frediano district of Florence.

The company initially made modifications to the WLA, the famous Harley Davidson motorcycles of the time, focusing on making the rigid frame of those models elastic. This was a revolutionary and cutting-edge modification for the 1948 era.

In the 1960s, Ancillotti's workshop turned to modern scooter modifications, starting with the Lambretta Innocenti. A few years later, the company began producing Cross, Enduro, and Trial motorcycles. Among the most famous models was the Ancillotti Scarab, the flagship of the Ancillotti brand.

The strength of this motorcycle lay in its artisanal production, including components such as the cast head and cylinder, top-of-the-line Ceriani suspensions, and off-road tires. Similar attention to detail was applied to road motorcycles like the Ancillotti 60 c.c., leading to long-lasting success and notable victories in major competitions.

Ancillotti MTB Bicycles: A Historic and Nationally Significant Product

Ancillotti bicycles are the first two-wheeled models listed in the Special Register of Historic Brands, distinguished by their unmistakable design that belongs to the Italian tradition, as well as their innovative aspects.

Today, the collection of historic Ancillotti bicycles includes various models, such as the DH Scarab, Scarab Enduro, Tomaso, DHP Tomaso, DHY, FRY, and the current Scarab EVO 29.
