Ancillotti: N°1 Among Historic Bike Brands
Not all bicycles are honored to belong to a historic brand. Ancillotti is the first, in this sector and in Italy, to be registered in the Special Register of Historic Marks, a name that is immediately associated with high-quality motorcycles, engines, and bicycles with excellent performance.
With a tradition of over 50 years, Ancillotti is now on the market with a range of bicycles that combines innovative design with the craftsmanship's functional performance.
Ancillotti: Italy's First Historic Bike Brand in the Special Register
Ancillotti is the first Italian bicycle brand to be registered in the Special Register of Historic Marks of National Interest, with registration number 29.
The designation “Historic Mark of National Interest” is a recognition that only Italian companies with a trademark registered for at least 50 years can claim, as a testament to their valuable contribution to the "history" of national entrepreneurship.
This particular list, established on April 30, 2019, at the behest of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), includes companies that have shown continuous operational excellence for over half a century. In 2021, the Italian Historic Marks Association (Amsi) was also established, which includes some major Italian companies such as Inghirami, Antinori, and Benetton among its eight founding members.
Being listed in the Special Register of Historic Marks, like Ancillotti, is not for everyone, but only for the most deserving companies that represent Italian tradition and have demonstrated operational continuity for over fifty years. Obviously, being part of the Historic Marks Register is both an honor and a responsibility for companies that must meet certain standards and operational procedures.
Ancillotti’s journey, as the first Italian bicycle brand of historic interest, began in Florence in 1967. It was here that Gualtiero Ancillotti founded “Ancillotti Meccanica,” continuing a tradition inherited from his father. In 1938, his father had established the first “Specialità Moto” workshop in the historic Florence neighborhood of San Frediano.
From the outset, the first successes came, showcasing a revolutionary approach: the initial work focused on the WLA models from the 1940s, the famous Harley Davidson motorcycles. The Ancillotti workshop replaced the rigid frame with an elastic one: at the time, this was almost a small revolution.
In the 1960s, Ancillotti also worked on scooters, including the Lambretta Innocenti. In 1966, Ancillotti set two world records at the Elvington circuit in England for the kilometer and the quarter mile from a standing start. This marked the beginning of a long path leading to the development of cross, enduro, regularity, and trial bikes. The Scarab model was a true gem of the Ancillotti brand, the object of desire for all the youth of that era.
Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and great passion are still evident today in the line of bicycles with innovative and high-performance designs.
Ancillotti Bikes
Ancillotti bicycles are notable for their innovative design, while still reflecting the meticulous attention to detail that is a hallmark of the brand and its artisanal work. Ancillotti bikes are the first to be registered in the Special Register of Historic Marks.
The latest model from Ancillotti, the Scarab Evo 29, is a contemporary remake of the old Scarab, a model from over 30 years ago. Today, this model features interesting updates and is immediately recognizable by its 29-inch wheels, a 65° head angle, and the traditional Pull-Shock system.
