Ancillotti Scarab at Number 128 in the MISE Register
ā
The Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) established a special register in 2019 dedicated to trademarks that have significantly contributed to the Italian economy. To be admitted to this list, trademarks must meet several criteria, including being registered without a name change for at least fifty years.
Ancillotti Scarab is the first motorcycle and MTB bicycle brand to be included in the Special Register of Historic Trademarks of National Interest, with registration number 128.
Being listed in this register not only acknowledges the historical significance of the brand but also allows it to use the MISE Historic Trademarks logo. Additionally, it gives the brand the opportunity to join AMSI, an association founded in June 2021 by renowned brands such as Benetton, Antinori, and Inghirami, with the aim of bringing together the historic Italian brands included in the MISE register.

The Birth of the Scarab Figurative Trademark
ā
The Ancillotti Scarab figurative trademark features a stylized scarab with outstretched wings.
The scarab that inspired Gualtiero and his sons in 1967 to create their trademark is depicted in a bas-relief above the entrance to the Pyramid or Ghiacciaia de’ Medici.
This structure is located in the Cascine Park, where the Ancillotti family tested their modifications.

The Birth of the Ancillotti Brand
ā
The Ancillotti family's passion for mechanics and motorcycles dates back a long time. In fact, you have to go back to the early 1900s to find the first mechanical repair workshop run by Ernesto, Gualtiero's father.
About thirty years later, in 1938, the ingenious Gualtiero, passionate about mechanics, motorcycles, and modifications, opened his own workshop in San Frediano, a historic district of Florence.
At Ancillotti Elaborazioni Specialità Moto, the modified WLA Harley Davidsons were born, which Gualtiero equipped with a powerful shock absorber system to make them easier to handle.
It was also in this workshop that the legendary Lambretta Innocenti modifications were created, earning the Ancillotti name fame thanks to the records they set between 1965 and 1966 on the Monza and Elvington circuits.

The Birth of the Scarab
ā
The first Scarab models were introduced in 1968. Initially, they were modifications of the Beta Cross Special. Given the considerable success, Gualtiero decided to take a step further and became a motorcycle manufacturer.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Scarab motorcycles were the top model of the Ancillotti brand, the bikes that every young person dreamed of owning.
Since the late 1980s, Ancillotti expanded its production to include bicycles. From the 1990s to today, several models of Scarab MTB bikes for Downhill and Enduro have been developed.
The latest Scarab models include the EVO 29, introduced in 2016, and the Scarab EVO 29 DH prototype, which won the World Championship this year with Sophie Riva of the Ancillotti Factory Team.
